In 1834 seventeen-year-old Thomas James must protect his Louisiana cousins from his uncle the sheriff by creating a trail for the posse to follow. This effort leads to Tom signing aboard the side-wheel schooner Ambrosia where he is tossed into battle with pirate brigantine's rescuing storm wrecked victims then swearing his oath as an officer and a gentleman to protect his dying captain's only daughter. He quickly discovers on his honeymoon that the headstrong blonde beauty Elizabeth doesn't live up to the fantasies that he envisioned married life should be; what with lies skullduggery and murder testing his manhood. Meantime with his cousins blasted down by cutlass-wielding pirates Tom swears to get even but first he must climb the ladder of promotion until captain of his very own ship. On this quest our Tom meets plenty of scoundrels as well as many a sultry beauty each attempting to lure him away from the conniving dame he married under false pretexts. Fame and fortune beckon if only he manages to stay alive. All his brawling and mauling across the high seas shall leave him addressed behind his back as Scarface Tom by his loyal crew. In all this turmoil he shall wind up supporting Texas in a revolt against Santa Anna as well as taking sides in the ongoing feud between the free traders of Marblehead against the Butler brothers of Rhode Island. A plethora of enemies demand his scalp on a platter so he'll have to be fast on his feet and quick on the draw if he wants to lead his Louisiana privateersmen to victory.
