Vine and others point out thispassage in Galatians is not referring to theHoly Spirit; its referring to the humanspirit although the Holy Spirit is involved.At times its difficult to tell whetherPaul is talking about the Holy Spirit or thehuman spirit because the same Greek wordpneuma is used.If you read the entire passage howeveryoull see that Paul is contrasting the worksof the flesh with the works of the spirit.Verse 19 says Now the works of the fleshare. . . . and verse 22 continues But thefruit of the Spirit is ....
