About The Book

Loves Labours Lost is a play written by William Shakespeare in the late 16th century. It is a comedy that explores the themes of love courtship and intellectualism. The play is set in the kingdom of Navarre where the King and his three companions have sworn to devote themselves to study for three years avoiding all worldly pleasures including the company of women. However their plans are disrupted when the Princess of France and her ladies arrive on a diplomatic mission. The men fall in love with the women and they struggle to balance their vows of abstinence with their desires. Meanwhile a subplot involves a group of comical characters who provide a contrast to the main plot and add to the plays comic tone. The play is known for its witty language and wordplay as well as its use of literary allusions and puns. It also features a number of songs and dances making it one of Shakespeares most musical plays.
