He is like a man which built an house and dig deep and laid thefoundation on a rock: and when the flood arose the stream beatvehemently upon that house and could not shake it: for it was foundedupon a rock. (Luke 6:48)For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid which is JesusChrist.(1 Corinthians 3:11)I have planted Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. (1Corinthians 3:6)In Luke chapter two God came down to earth in the person of His SonJesus Christ. A premise was established throughout the Old Testament. Asacrifice is required for sin. Whether in Genesis 3:24 through the picturegiven in Exodus 12. There is a payment due for sin. That payment for alleternity was paid on the cross of Calvary. That is the foundation that theSon of God laid for the whole world. . . salvation through the blood of Godsonly Son.Here is the rest of the story. . .Now if any man build upon this foundation gold silver precious stones wood hay stubble; Every mans work shall be made manifest: for theday shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fireshall try every mans work of what sort it is. (1 Corinthians 3:12-13)Jesus has already laid the foundation. Once we have received into ourhearts the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9-10) we have laid that foundationfor all eternity. Now how do we build on that foundation? Notice that thereare two types of materials gold silver precious stones or wood hay andstubble. Which would you prefer your construction be made of?We can build upon that foundation in two ways. . . Gods buildingmaterials OR the worlds materials (wood hay stubble). That is our lifeswork. Building on the foundation of the truth of the gospel message. Oh and what do we use for mortar? Look at this verse. . .But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that comethto God must believe that he is and that he is a reward of them thatdiligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)Faith is the mortar that holds this structure together. Without that thewalls will never stand the winds of adversity! In Luke 6 Jesus contrasts these two buildings their contrastingfoundations. How is your foundation? On what are you building your lifeswork? Will it stand? How about adversity? How do you weather the stormsin your life? It ALL depends on that foundation. Rome Corinth Galatia Ephesus Philippi Colosse etc. These are the churches the work that Paulbuilt on the foundation of the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. When you tell someone about Jesus you are building upon that samefoundation. That is our calling that is our lifes work. That is the gold silver and precious stones built upon the foundation of the gospel of JesusChrist.
