A lot have been studied researched and written about the Maasai people. For instance in the 19th century the first attempt to put Maa the language of the Maasai in writing was done in the person of Rev. Dr. Johann Ludwig Kraft (1810 - 1881). In 1854 he published a vocabulary of the Enkutuk Eloikob. In 1857 Jacob Erhardt an explorer also wrote a vocabulary of Enkuduk Eloikob. And as if that was not enough in 1883 Joseph Thomson a Scottish explorer wrote through masailand making a sketchy account of his escapades in Maasailand in which he made history for crisscrossing. In 1905 Alfred Claud Hollis was at it again when he wrote The Masai: Their language and focklore. But in this one by then chief secretary to the Administration of the East Africa protectorate it was the introductory part by Eliot which became a stupendous masterpiece.
