About The Book

The extraction of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) makes an important contribution to the livelihoods of thousands of people around the world both in urban and rural areas. Brazil has extensive forest areas which harbor great potential for the development of extractive activities constituting a commercial relationship of social economic and environmental importance. The aim of this study was to analyze the extraction of Macaúba (Acrocomia intumescens Drude) based on the local knowledge of the extractivists in a community in the Chapada do Araripe Environmental Preservation Area from the perspective of local development.
