Muthiah finally settled for a career in journalism. After nearly two decades as a senior journalist with the Times of Ceylon group he returned to Madras and was in printing and publishing for nearly 25 years. He was a freelance journalist editor of&nbsp;</span><em style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1); color: rgba(15 17 17 1)>Madras Musings</em><span style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1); color: rgba(15 17 17 1)> and a columnist for&nbsp;</span><em style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1); color: rgba(15 17 17 1)>The Hindu</em><span style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1); color: rgba(15 17 17 1)>.
