This work presents an experimental research of the physical properties of the orthorhombic Eu1−xYxMnO3 system at low temperatures mainly focused on its ferroelectric properties magnetoelectric coupling and on the lattice mediated spin-phonon coupling arising from the competition of magnetic interactions in this system. A thorough analysis towards the correlation between both structural and Raman modes parameters has been undertaken. The results provide evidence for two main structural distortions of MnO6 octahedra arising from a cooperative Jahn-Teller and rotational distortions in these compounds.
