Magnets in Orthodontics

The use of magnets in dentistry has gained grounds slowly. Interest in using magnets for generating orthodontic forces started with the widespread availability of rare earth magnetic alloy. Rare earth magnets initially made from cobalt- samarium alloy and later neodymium- iron - boron alloy generate high mechanical forces in relation to their smaller size. This has enabled orthodontic treatment with magnets become a practical proposition in certain applications.
