Majestic 12 and the Secret Government

Majestic 12 and the Secret Government is a book written by William Cooper a former United States Naval Intelligence Briefing Team member. The book was published in 1990 and is an exploration of the alleged existence of a secret government organization known as Majestic 12 (MJ-12). According to Cooper MJ-12 was established in 1947 by President Harry Truman in response to the alleged crash of an extraterrestrial spacecraft near Roswell New Mexico. The organizations purpose was to investigate and cover up any evidence of extraterrestrial life and technology that may have been discovered. Cooper claimed that MJ-12 operated outside the framework of the government with no oversight or accountability and had access to advanced technologies far beyond what was available to the public. He argued that the organization was responsible for a wide range of covert activities including the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The book has been highly controversial with many dismissing Coopers claims as baseless conspiracy theories. However it has also gained a significant following within the UFO and conspiracy theory communities. While some aspects of Coopers claims have been corroborated by declassified government documents the existence of MJ-12 itself remains a subject of debate and controversy.
