About The Book

This book entitled “Making imperfect perfect; strengthening capacity of Makerere University Medical Students to Manage Sexual Gender Based Violence” is a publication on work done between Makerere University College of Health Sciences and Action Group for Health Human rights and HIV/AIDS (AGHA). The project focused on increasing competencies of health workers to competently manage SGBV at health facilities. The aim of the project was to establish the perceptions and practices of the medical students of MakCHS towards Sexual and Gender Based Violence survivors. The methods used were a cross sectional study with sample of 60 Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery students from year 2 4 and 5. Key results were: 50% of students knew the type of SGBV suffered by men while that suffered by women was physical violence to obtain sex. Participants believed that SGBV is a cultural and family issue for which a husband should not be denied sex.
