<p>The book has the letters of a Baltimore doctor to his two physician sons with the Hopkins 118<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;General Hospital in the Pacific during WW II. The older son became the commanding officer. The letters tell how the war affected the city the family and the hospitals whose staffs largely had vanished to the war effort.</p>
