Management of Major Insect Pests of Cluster Bean

Cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonaloba (Linn.) Taub.) represent its derivation from the Sanskrit word “GAUAAHAR” which means cow fodder or otherwise fodder of the livestock. Cluster bean are used as a vegetable for human consumption and also grown for cattle feed and as a green manure crop. Being a leguminous crop it is also a good source of Ca Fe and vitamins. Cluster bean is attacked by different insect pests at various growth stages of the crop and cumulatively it causes heavy losses in yield. A single insecticide will not give effective control of the insect pests as they have different types of habits and nature of damage. Management of insect-pest is basic requirement for higher and quality yield of field crop. A single insecticide will not provide effective control of these pests attacking at various stages of cluster bean. Therefore it is prime need to develop insect pests management which not only effectively control the various pest attacking this crop but also provide safety to honey bee.
