Management of Tooth with Open apex

Injury to the anterior teeth is a very common event. Such injury to a tooth with immature apex requires special attention and treatment. Cleaning and obturation of such blunder-buss canals poses a challenge. Management of non-vital tooth with open apex requires stimulating the formation of a natural or an artificial apical barrier which will act as a stop for the obturating material. ‘Apexification’ is artificial formation of a calcific barrier in tooth with open apex. Literature suggest a variety of biocompatible materials which can be used for creating an artificial barrier. This review attempts to discuss the management of tooth with open apex various methods and materials used in its treatment.
