Mangifera Indica Gum as Sustain Release Polymer

The present study provided an insight into the evaluation of the MIG as a sustain release polymer in the matrix tablets formulations this due to its good flow good swelling and sustainability and the results illustrated the ability of this gum to sustain the drug release. The MI polymer was found to be of high purity and the method of extraction and characterization is economic and gave high yield.Drug release from MIG matrix formulations was dependent on the mucilage to drug ratio. As the concentration of MIG increased drug release is retarded due to increase in the gel strength and to the formation of gel layer with longer path of diffusion resulting in reduction in diffusion coefficient of the drug.
