Tana River County is one of the forty seven (47) counties in Kenya. The County named after the Tana River itself borders Garissa to the North Isiolo to the Northwest Lamu to the Northeast Kilifi to the Southeast Taita Taveta to the South and Kitui to the West. It is in the former Coast province and it is named after the Tana River that passes through it as it empties into the Indian Ocean. The county has a total area of 38475KM2 square a coastal strip of 35km and accounts for 6.61 per cent of Kenya’s total surface area. The County’s capital is the town of Hola which has a population of 17337. Other major towns include Madogo Bura and Garsen. One of the important natural resources in the county is the River Tana Kenya’s largest river which flows through the county as it drains into the Indian Ocean. The river also forms the Tana River Delta a wetland that covers about 1300 km2 and supports more than 100000 inhabitants (Leauthaud et al. 2013)
