<p>Transformed from mortal to mermaid Marvela leaves the Amazon waters for the depths of the sea to guard tribal relics from shipwrecks on the Caribbean floor. With a fellow mermaid from Africa however Marvela also beholds the trauma of colonial brutality in the cold Atlantic waters. In the poem <em>Marvela and the Broken Water</em> these two selected sirens depart from traditional mythology to become agents of resurrection. <em>Marvela and the Broken Waters</em> is an illustrated poem novella that one can read in one sitting but the author's messages and imagination reverberate&nbsp;justice healing and feminism.&nbsp;</p>
