<span style=background-color: rgba(246 242 238 1); color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>In Southwest Virginia in the Draper's Meadow area the Ingles and Draper families built their homes and started farming. This land was within part of the hunting ground of many Native American Tribes. On July 7 1755 a group of Shawnee men captured Mary Draper Ingles and other members of her family. They took them on a journey of about 400 miles away from their home. Although Mary was separated from the rest of her family during this time she eventually escaped and made her way back home.<strong style=background-color: rgba(246 242 238 1); color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>
