About The Book

This book seeks to provide a GIS-based analytical approach to identify food deficiency regions using physical accessibility and market location as geo-influencers. To contextualize the idea Tharaka constituency is used for its distinct transitional livelihood zones comprising rainfed cropping mixed farming and marginal mixed farming which offer agro and pastoral livelihood opportunities to the village communities living in this semi-arid rural area of Kenya. A novice approach on how to identify food-deficient areas hereby referred to as ''''food desert'''' in the constituency is based on village to markets accessibility modeling using Geographic Information Systems.
