Mathilda is a novella written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley the English author best known for her iconic work Frankenstein. Mathilda was composed in 1819-1820 but was not published during Shelley's lifetime. It remained largely unknown until it was discovered and published posthumously in the mid-20th century.The novella tells the story of Mathilda a young woman who recounts her tragic life experiences through a series of letters and narratives Mathilda's life is marked by sorrow and isolation stemming from her complicated relationship with her father. The story explores themes of love guilt and the consequences of forbidden desires.
