Statues of the kushan empire especially those belonging to the gandhara region show a strong influence of Greek and Roman elements. The sculpture was usually made of dark Brown phytite areolar plaster or terracotta. The sculpture of the southern Mathura region was developed from native Indian traditions emphasizing Chubby bodily forms. Its sculptural paintings wear minimal wear and are usually carved with red beige sandstone. Mathura also produced art for Jain and Hindus during the kushan period.
