Me vs Myself

Who is Maya? That is the question. Who is Maya & how is it possible that she can feel so many different things be so many different things all at once? Me vs. Myself is a powerful collection of poetry about black girl adolescence written by fourteen-year-old Austinite Maya Craft. Through her poems Maya takes on different characters and writes from a variety of perspectives but most often she writes from her own. Themes she explores through her poetry include love loneliness confidence depression hope fear family loss betrayal resilience being a girl being black and finding herself. Me vs. Myself is less about answering questions than it is about experiencing them. There is no right or even static answer. And yet in these poems with fierceness sweetness clarity and power Maya makes herself known.
