Measles outbreak in Kankan region: Analysis of the response

This is a prospective (historical) and descriptive comprehensive prospective epidemiological study of all cases of measles meeting the standard definition and reported to the national health security agency (ANSS) during the study period.The study showed that the attack rate was relatively high in the Region with a maximum of 8.6 cases per 100000 hbts in the siguiri district ( 51.9% of cases IC95% [45.3-58.5]) and the minimum recorded in the Mandiana district 2.6 per 100000 hbts (7.7% IC95% [4.6-11.8]). Children under five years of age were the most affected with 77.80% (95% CI [71.90-83.00]). Young boys were affected in 59.6% (CI95% [53.0-65.9]) with a sex ratio of 1.47. The case-fatality rate was 19.6% (CI95% [14.7-25.2]); diarrhoea accounted for 20% of the complications recorded. Measles lethality is statistically related to being male (OR=0.34; 95% CI [0.15-0.74] ;p-value: 0.008) and belonging to the middle social class (OR=0.19; 95% CI [0.08-0.40]; p-value <0.05).Conclusion: The campaign can be considered a failure despite the high vaccine coverage.
