Measuring Management Effectiveness in Protected Areas

About The Book

Over the last few years evaluation of the management effectiveness in protected areas has been considered as one of the essential aspects in the field of protected area management. However systematic periodic monitoring reports and research feedbacks are scanty. With this regard this study was undertaken to test an evaluation methodology and indicators for effective management in Chitwan National Park Nepal. This assessment was carried out by applying De Faria methodology and it encompasses elements such as context planning input process and outputs of the IUCN-WCPA framework. Evaluation is a broad area and can be carried out as much as possible based on need and resources. So although this assessment is not claimed to be a comprehensive one the findings are helpful to corrective management practices in a more adaptive effective and participatory approach. Therefore this book should be useful to professionals in resource management and conservation field especially park managers to do self-assessment in both site and system levels and also to the government who should understand the situation and create favorable circumstances for sustainable resource management and development.
