Medusa's Coil is a short story written by Zealia Bishop in collaboration with H.P. Lovecraft. It was written in 1930 and Lovecraft helped Bishop revise and shape the story for publication. The story was first published in the magazine Weird Tales in 1939 several years after Lovecraft's death. Medusa's Coil is a tale of horror that involves dark rituals forbidden knowledge and a cursed family history. The story is set in the fictional town of Kingsport a location often featured in Lovecraft's works. It follows the protagonist a man named Philip Hastane as he uncovers the eerie secrets surrounding his lover Asenath Waite and her family. As with many of Lovecraft's collaborations the extent of Lovecraft's contribution to Medusa's Coil has been a subject of discussion among scholars and fans. Despite the collaborative nature of the work it is generally recognized as part of Lovecraft's literary legacy.
