About The Book

These are the memoirs of Hans Hendrik (Suersaq; 18321889) a Kalaallit interpreter who was the first Inuk to publish an account of his travels. Hendrik took part of the Second Grinnell expedition Hayes'' expedition the Polaris expedition and the British Arctic Expedition of 18751876. In addition to taking in part in four Arctic expeditions Hendrik visited New York City and Washington DC and recorded in these memoirs his impressions of America.
