Memories of Female Slavery in 19th Century Brazil

About The Book

Art is the voice of our microcosm and since we need to communicate with the macrocosm we produce art we live art. Thus we sought to analyse the figural discourse through artistic languages looking for the representation of black women in Jean Baptiste-Debret this artist being one of the many ways that show essential aspects of our culture given its richness and diversity. In this work we have established a cross-section of the daily lives of black people and our fauna and flora based on Debret showing elements that have contributed to the formation of our country's territorial and cultural identity which consist of portraits of Brazilianness. In this way Debret invites us to explore the world of work and the social and functional habits of black people through his drawings. Finally the black element achieved its forms of freedom through resistance often without violence or even silence.
