Originally published in 1938 this book presents the content of a report made to the Pilgrim Trust on the subject of unemployment and the needs of the unemployed. It was designed to provide the Pilgrim Trustees with guidance on the allocation of funding in relation to the social problems associated with unemployment. Numerous investigators contributed to the report which was overseen by a committee led by William Temple Archbishop of York at the time of publication.
