About The Book

Shrimad Bhagwat, also known as Bhagwat Purana, is one of the greatest Puranas in Hinduism. It is also the most sacred book of Hindus and is highly revered by devotees of Lord Vishnu. It is about the Narayana (the Lord), his avatars and the detailed account of Lord Krishna. Written by Rishi Vyasadeva, the book consists of 18,000 verses, which are presented in 12 cantos (skandas) or volumes, and 332 chapters. It is believed that Mahamuni Shukacharya (son of Ved Vyas) narrated this text during sarpayaag performed by King Parikshit (son of Abhimanyu and grand son of Arjuna) over a period of seven days. This ancient book comprises of Mahabharata (Krishna Avatar), Ramayana (Rama Avatar), and Narsimha Avatar of Lord Vishnu among others. This is the (first part of) tenth of the 12 cantos (Skandas).
