Metalographer's Handbook

Metallography by definition is the study of the morphology and structure of metals. It is one of the main branches of physical metallurgy studying the constitution structure and texture of metals. Metallographic examination analyzes metal from the point of view of its structure seeking to relate it to physical properties chemical composition mechanical properties manufacturing process applicability etc. in order to characterize or predict the behavior of metals in a given application. The observation of metal structures under convenient magnifications is of fundamental importance for students engineers and researchers as well as for metal quality control.
