Soon after a baby in a basket appeared on their doorstep under mysterious circumstances. Fearing a connection to dark and powerful magic they endeavor to raise him into a non-magical life as a warrior.</p><p></p><p>Despite a promising start in the local guard Johnny D'Abrac's career is derailed by tragedy subterfuge and an awareness that the war against the elves is unjust. After his talent for magic is discovered he must navigate a complex and dangerous world of magic where enemies may seem fair and allies may be fearsome and secretive.
