Society and the State have moved through various relationships as the means of linking them have evolved. Later in the era of bronze and iron the sophistication of weapons allowed the emergence of the absolutist state. Thus tribal political systems gave way to totalitarian and authoritarian states. In these regimes the means of connection that the monarch used to govern his subjects were war devices that guaranteed the defense of the territory and the expansion of the empires.
