For family members and caregivers dementia can be challenging to manage both emotionally and practically. Providing care for a loved one with dementia can be time-consuming stressful and costly and may lead to caregiver burnout and other negative outcomes. The cost of caring for individuals with dementia can be high and as the population ages the prevalence of the condition is expected to increase placing an even greater burden on healthcare systems and economies worldwide. Might as Well Laugh is a book about our family's journey with my mother as she progressed through the stages of dementia and its impact on our family friends and community. This book underscores the emotional and financial investment undertaken by her caregivers be it family friends or paid care givers.
