After WWII Europe started to experience vast migration due to guest workers asylants and the free movement of highly skilled labour. The changes in demographics prompted the European countries to reconsider the concept of citizenship. This thesis analyzes the approach of individual European countries towards citizenship policies. Starting with citizenship defined as closure towards poverty all European countries are placed in a typology mapping each country according to its practiced citizenship policy to assess whether this citizenship definition applies throughout Europe.
