Migration and Sustainable Development

About The Book

Migration despite the difficulties it may pose is part of economic social and human development and makes it possible to reduce inequalities both within and between countries. Migrants simply weave and mix the world. They connect societies and contribute to the development of their home and host territories. Effort is needed to integrate the mobility factor into territorial development strategies and to ensure that migrants are recognized as full citizens and for the respect of their rights to be a priority. This book is an attempt to deal with these and other related issues. It essentially examines the connection between sustainable development and migration. We will discuss issues together such as why do people immigrate; the blurred boundaries between and within categories in the study of migration (voluntary/forced migration legal/illegal migration labor migration and more); theories of international migration; immigration and borders; the securitization of immigration; environmental migration and 'climate refugees'; and the complex network of connections between migration and international development.
