About The Book

Alvin Christopher Bernstine is a fourth generation preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In the past 20 years, he has been privileged to serve two wonderful Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee and the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. This book is his fifth publication, and his second collection of published sermons. The redemptive purposes of God, as revealed at The Cross, have inspired the African American church to consider life-transforming ministry in the disaster areas of urban America, often ravished by the savage greed of corporate America and insensitivity of white politicians. A community without healthy social support has often bred a deep sense of communal despair that becomes painfully self-destructive. It has been these kinds of contexts where visionary African American church leadership has dared to see Jesus.
