About The Book

Katherine Olmsted's amazing nursing adventures carried her overseas to Europe as a Red Cross nurse during World War I. Her war time experience as documented by letters written home display an interesting perspective from on-site deployment. Katherine later spoke of her wartime experiences to many groups stateside. In 1921 she returned to Europe to help with the post-war reconstruction efforts. During her second tour of duty she traveled through fifty-two countries and received eleven decorations plus citations. In 1926 Katherine Olmsted resigned from the nursing profession and enrolled at University Sorbonne Paris to earn Le Cordon Bleu Cuisine Diploma. She then headed home to the U.S. to start a new career as chef and restaurant owner. This book takes a look into the life of a nurse during a remarkable time in history and is a tribute to Katherine Olmsted's resilience.
