Mitigating the salt stress in Sorghum bicolor (L.) with salicylic acid
English

About The Book

Over last few years major significance of salicylic acid was observed in agriculture and horticulture in relation to plant tolerance. The studies of sorghum in relation to salt tolerance are relatively few. Therefore the study was carried out to mitigate the effect of salt stress by application of salicylic acid in sorghum. Out of 25 species of sorghum only 17 species are native to Australia and the rest one are extending to Asia Mesoamerica and Africa. It is the 5th most important cereal crop. The grain is commercially used for making edible oil alcoholic beverages etc. In India sorghum crop is popularly known as “Jowar”. Plant growth and productivity was adversely affected by the environmental factor i.e. salt stress and also effecting various physiological and biochemical processes. Due to which adverse environmental conditions cannot be tolerated by plants and they are not able to move from one place to another so for survival plants do some metabolic changes under stress condition like synthesis of some organic metabolites or some growth regulators i.e. salicylic acid.
