Moisture Dependent Physical Properties Of Pigeon Pea Grains

About The Book

Pigeon pea is one of the important pulse crops of India contributing 16.47 % to the total production of all pulses. It is mostly consumed after dehulling in the form of dhal. Different properties of pigeon pea grains namely size in terms of length breath and thickness; sphericity; bulk density; porosity; true density; angle of repose and static coefficient of friction against different surfaces were determined at 10 15 20 25 and 30% (d.b.) moisture content for the BSMR-736 variety of pigeon pea grains. The average length width thickness size sphericity and thousand grain mass were 6.47 to 7.47 mm 5.31 to 5.68 mm 4.56 to 4.90 mm 5.39 to 5.93 mm 0.83 to 0.80 and 119.43 to 140.0 g respectively at moisture content from 10 to 30 %(d.b.). The value of bulk density and true density linearly decreased from 837.67 to 757.33 and 1346.67 to 1268.33 kg/m3 respectively. Porosity increased with moisture content from 37.78 to 40.29 %.The angle of repose increased from 28.33 to 34.95° and the static coefficient of friction increased against three surfacesgalvanized sheet plywood and glass from 0.41 to 0.53 0.43 to 0.57 and 0.35 to 0.46 respectively.
