Shigella genus are strict human pathogens that target the gastrointestinal tract and induce acute bacillary dysentery that known as Shigellosis Shigella continues to be important causes of acute diarrhea worldwide. Therefore this study aimed to phenotypic and genotypic Charactrization of antimicrobial resistance genes of Shigella isolates detection of integrons genes also detection of quinolones resistance associated genes as well as their virulence profile . Twenty isolates of Shigella were obtained from the master''s student and were diagnostic and confirmed by selective and differential media were used The suspected colonies identified biochemically by Api20 E system. Polymerase chain reaction was done to identify Shigella genus by using invC gene as a specific primer 20 isolates were positive. Specific target genes were used to differentiate Shigella species whereas rfc gene wbgZ gene rfpB gene and conserved hypothetical protein gene for Shigella flexneri Shigella sonnei Shigella dysenteriae and Shigella boydii respectively.
