Although a temporary cease-fire had been agreed to South Vietnam's enemy initiated wide scale surprise attacks across the countryside. Rockets bombarded several locations around Da Nang and automatic weapons fire peppered a U.S. Navy pier. The latter attack was brief and did little damage to the installation. As the sun arose American military aircraft bombed suspected enemy hiding sites. Later that day South Vietnamese Army vehicles began bringing in enemy bodies and placing them on display across the road from the Navy pier. As the day grew hotter the odor of the decaying dead began drifting across the pier. Monkeys In the Sun paints an exciting and compelling portrait of one memorable night and day in the lives of U.S. Navy Security personnel during 1968's Tet Offensive.
