About The Book

Its the biggest mystery. If the Universe were a funfair - galaxies whirling like fairground rides streams of gas and dust strewn across the sky like bunting people wandering through it eating hot-dogs - where did it come from?Who put it there?Science does a wonderful job explaining part of the story. It just cant do the beginning or the end or the meaning. It cant tell us why there is something rather than nothing at all.And it cant tell us how the fruit-eating primates turned into people who hum music write novels invent day-time TV and ponder the Nature of Being. For that we need something more than bananas.Glenn Myers has degrees from Kings College London and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena California and has been a full-time journalist and writer nearly all his life. For most of that time he has aspired to write stuff that is funny quirky redemptive original and entertaining. This book came out of near-death experiences. Glenns heart stopped in 2011 and had to be restarted. Then he spent most of May 2013 in a medically-induced coma unlikely ever to recover from serious lung damage hallucinating wildly (and often quite entertainingly). It took some weeks to wake up and recover a steady grip on what currently passes for reality. He wrote More than Bananas in the months that followed while learning to breathe chew swallow and walk again. He made a full recovery. Brought up in West Yorkshire Glenn has lived in Pasadena Singapore London and Cote dIvoire but has settled with his wife in Cambridge UK. They have two grown-up children. Unlike everyone else in his family neither of his degrees are from Cambridge University. He and his wife are members of their local Anglican church. He particularly enjoys curries cafes and his hammock though not all at the same time.
