Mothers' knowledge attitudes and practices

About The Book

Feeding children over 6 months of age remains a real public health problem. The aim of this study is to assess the level of knowledge attitudes and practices of mothers in the Bagira health zone with regard to complementary feeding. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study and the LUNCH formula enabled us to find a sample of 384 breastfeeding mothers. Data were collected using a survey questionnaire in the Bagira Health Zone. Our survey revealed that 99% of respondents had already heard of complementary feeding. Almost all respondents knew that complementary feeding is the introduction of food supplements to breast milk at 6 months. Ordinary porridge was identified as the very first food to be introduced by 9 out of 10 respondents (91.8%) and almost all (97.9%) mentioned the age of over 24 months as the weaning age.It is important to reinforce women's knowledge of the composition of meals to be given to children so that they have a balanced diet.
