Multi-Directional Inclusions: A Novel Mechanism of Earth Reinforcement

About The Book

Reinforced soils are widely used in Geotechnical Engineering applications like construction of road and railway embankments slope stabilization ground improvement etc. The conventional reinforcements used were in the form of strips grids or sheets placed horizontally in the soil.Multi-directional reinforcements represent the recent additions in the field of earth reinforcement on which only very few investigations have been reported so far. These reinforcements combine the advantages of the conventional two dimensional or planar elements and the passive resistance offered by the additional three dimensional projections on their surface. This book presents an insight into the effectiveness of such reinforcing elements in improving the strength and stability of cohesionless loose to medium dense sand deposits. The second part of the study also deals with the development of an Artificial Neural Network that can predict the improvement in the soil parameters upon addition of such reinforcing elements.
