Multimedia Systems

This book dedicated to multimedia data compression methods is the result of my efforts during 12 years of teaching this course to first year Master's students. It covers the fundamental and practical aspects of lossless and lossy data compression applied to text image video and audio. We present respectively the lossless compression methods (RLE LZW and HUFFMAN) lossy compression (JPEG) lossy compression (MPEG) which is applied to reduce the size of video files and lossy compression of the audio (MP3).We finish this handout by giving the statements of the exercises carried out in supervised and practical work.
