About The Book

The Corporation of London has an extensive collection of medieval records which can be used to trace the development of the City and provide much information of all aspects of civic life social economic political ecclesiastical legal and military. H. T. Riley (181678) spent many years editing and translating some of the most significant documents and thereby establishing his scholarly reputation. Volume 3 of this three-volume work in four parts published in 1860 contains translations of the Anglo-Norman passages in the Liber Albus (the text of which is presented in Volume 1) with glossaries and an index. Extracts are also given as appendices from other items in the Corporation''s archive chiefly relating to the economic and social life of the city and including a description of Henry VI''s formal entry into the City on his return from France in 1432.
