Mutiparametric MRI for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis-A Systematic review

About The Book

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the western world. The diagnosis of prostate cancer is difficult even with the advent many newer technologies. For many years DRE PSA and TRUS (standard 12 core) guided biopsy were the diagnostic tools for PCa diagnosis. TPSB is the gold standard in the repeat biopsy setting with negative conventional biopsy but requiring more than 20 cores and associated complications triggers the search for other non-invasive methods of investigation. The recent advent of multi parametric MRI brings the opportunity to take very few cores (2-4) at biopsy by targeting the lesion to confirm the diagnosis. But the software fuse the Multi-parametric MRI with ultrasound images is still expensive for routine clinical practice. Furthermore studies have confirmed that this technology can detect more clinically significant cancer but can also miss high-grade cancer to some extent. Before adopting the technology it is necessary to confirm the accuracy of multi-parametric MRI so that prostate cancer can be reliably diagnosed characterised and by targeted biopsy (MRI guided).
