<p>Denver newspaper reporter Matt Walker has been assigned to investigate complaints from local ranchers who believe their oil lease royalties are being shorted. As his probe into a major oil leasing company intensifies two of the company's senior managers are murdered pulling Matt deeper into a dangerous web of deceit. While searching for proof of a complex murder and fraud conspiracy he begins to question whether some of his own friends-those with ties to the same company-might be involved. Undeterred by a series of anonymous and increasingly menacing threats urging him to abandon the investigation Matt pushes forward on a perilous and twisting path toward the truth. With help from a determined Denver detective and a hesitant whistle-blower he edges closer to answers that remain maddeningly out of reach.
