My Lady Caprice

The story begins with the narrator a young man named Richard Ferrars fishing in the River Avon. He is interrupted by the arrival of Lady Warburton a wealthy and eccentric woman who lives in the nearby village. Lady Warburton is accompanied by her niece Lisbeth a beautiful and intelligent young woman.Richard is immediately smitten with Lisbeth and she seems to reciprocate his feelings. However Lisbeth is also known for her capricious nature and she is not always easy to understand.Richard and Lisbeth spend a lot of time together and they eventually fall in love. However their relationship is complicated by the fact that Lisbeth is engaged to be married to another man Lord Everleigh.Lord Everleigh is a wealthy and powerful man but he is also arrogant and cruel. Lisbeth does not love him but she feels obligated to marry him because of her family's social position.Richard is determined to win Lisbeth's heart and he eventually succeeds in persuading her to break off her engagement to Lord Everleigh. However Lord Everleigh is not willing to let Lisbeth go without a fight. He challenges Richard to a duel and Richard is seriously injured.Lisbeth is devastated by Richard's injury and she realizes that she cannot live without him. She rushes to his side and confesses her love for him. Richard and Lisbeth are finally able to be together and they live happily ever after.
