Her collected poems are marked by a flair for honest reflection that takes readers into her world with unapologetic transparency. </span><strong style=background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0)>In free verse and narrative prose poems Aldridge allows herself release through celebration of her Christian faith.</strong><span style=background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0)> With her soul lighting the way she embarks on a journey both unique and universal reflecting on family culture hurt and healing. </span><strong style=background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0)>Her willingness to broach truths more often left unsaid from deep cultural anguish to ecstatic spiritual grace establish her as a significant voice in the story of Black life in America.</strong><span style=background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0)> </span><span style=background-color: rgba(255 255 255 1)>The iconic image 5th Grade Substitute by African American artist Annie Lee is featured on the cover of the collection and used as an illustration within.
